“Cosmetic” means any article intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on, or introduced into, or otherwise applied to, the human body or any part thereof for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance, and includes any article intended for use as a component of cosmetic. 

Cosmetic Labelling

Proper labelling is required to market cosmetic products in India, it informs consumer about the product and helps them to make better choice. Labelling and packing of cosmetic products manufactured in India is governed by Drugs & Cosmetic Act, 1940 and rules made there under. The labels also need to comply with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
